Busy or lazy
Tons of stuff going on at the moment, most important of all however is the fact that I finally graduated
First I was busy finishing up the dissertation work, then I was busy sorting out everything else that was left behind and now I’m trying to get away from everything. So anyway my current title is apparently something along the lines of “Engineer of Computer aided Graphic Design”. Of course I’m not sure what the actual translation to English is. Heck I’m not even sure what the title is in Croatian, I guess I’ll find out once they issue the diplomas.
Anyway My dissertation work was regarding web typography and one of the issues I realized while writing it was the fact that Firefox 3.5 came out. That means full @font-face support as well as a few other nice features such as text columns, shadow and word wrapping. Of course not all of this is supported in other browsers but the cool thing about it is that I can now remove SIFR from my pages entirely and just use @font-face for headers. In case you don’t have the newest version of Firefox however you would just get the standard fonts like Arial or Helvetica. That’s another thing I noticed. I got a chance to check out how my page looks on an iphone and it’s amazing that one of the very few places where I chose to leave ems as a sizing measure for text is now actually fucked up. Of course I knew right from that start that I would have to sacrifice a lot of flexibility if I wanted to be all out creative with the site so I don’t mind if it doesn’t show as it should everywhere. However I have decided to try and sort some things out that could use improvement. I know that all of this seems a bit of an overkill since I don’t really need to put that much work into a personal portfolio site but I see this site as a place where I can experiment and learn to work with features that I normally wouldn’t use while working for a client. So Jquery is one of the things I want to try and next and see how far I can implement it here. Although I’d rather wait to see what features Expression Engine 2.0 will offer regarding the matter. But removing SIFR and replacing it with @font-face is my priority now. I’ve opened an account on Behance and was hoping to upload my entire portfolio there but for some reason the site lags so bad that I can rarely manage to upload one work, hope it gets fixed soon. Another thing I’m waiting to see fixed is the damn Songbird music player since I need it for last.fm scrobbling.
On another note I am going down to the coast to take some photos and I plan to buy a tripod so they should be a lot better than anything I have on offer right now. All the gig details have been sorted out and I’m looking forward to traveling around a bit, it’s gonna be amazing for sure. Be sure to check out the links to the festivals on the main page of the site.
Oh and I’ve been gaming a lot recently as well, finally finished Mass Effect and I can say it’s one of the most amazing games I’ve ever played. Can’t wait for the sequel! Also playing a really cool game on the DS called Henry Hatsworth’s puzzling adventure, it’s a kind of a crossover between a 2d action platformer and a tetris like puzzle game. So much for now, and for a few months I think. Jobs have been really slow and I am probably going to start working on some of my own free projects during the next couple of months as well as trying to find a normal everyday job.
